HAPPY NEW YEAR

Image
Hello, and welcome back to my blog, mate! I missed you, I know you missed me too 😉 . I had to take a compulsory break for so many reasons but I'm back here and hey, Happy New Year!  Last year was a rollercoaster,   I must say. And you know, the last time I wrote about stress, I didn't know I was writing that piece for myself but I'm glad I could put it to good use.  I have had more than enough time to reflect on so many things and so you might want to ask me what my plan for this year is but trust me, all I want to do this year is live, have as much fun as I can and be happy. I am determined to make more time for myself and the things I enjoy, and one of the ways I’ll be doing that is by returning to doing this- blogging. If you're an observant person, you'd have noticed that my accent changed a bit. Yeah yeah I know you're excited, I am too. However, I would be giving you the gist around that sometime later. For now just welcome me back. I have also decided ...

DEALING WITH STRESS

Image
Stress is a feeling of being under abnormal pressure and in this day and time, I personally think it’s an extreme sport to not get overwhelmed once in a while. This pressure can come from different aspects of your day to day life such as an increased workload, a transitional period, an argument you have with your family or new and existing financial worries. During these situations you may feel threatened or upset and your body might create a stress response. This can cause a variety of physical symptoms, change the way you behave, and lead you to experience more intense emotions. Stress affects us in a number of ways, both physically and emotionally and in varying intensities. How to identify stress. Everyone experiences stress. However, when it is affecting your life, health and well being, it is important to tackle it as soon as possible, and while stress affects everyone differently, these are common signs and symptoms you can look out for: feelings of constan...

MENSTRUAL CRAMPS (DYSMENORRHEA)

Image
If you've ever been in a situation where you had to  assume close  to 70 positions in less than 7 minutes to find some comfort, then you would agree with me that menstrual cramps can be a hell of a  nuisance especially when you have to work and I am pretty sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. Well today, we would be talking about dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps) and how best to deal with it. Menstrual cramps are painful sensations that affect a number of women before and during a menstrual period and I'm sure you've had at least an experience of this annoying situation. The pain usually occurs in the lower abdomen and lower back and begins 1 to 2 days before menstruation and lasts from 2 to 4 days. Menstrual cramps could range from mild to moderate or even severe that it could interfere with your day to day activities. Mild to moderate cramps could be managed effectively but when it starts to affect your day to day activities, then you might need to visit ...

RAPE, ITS EFFECTS AND THE CONCEPT OF CONSENT

Image
Quite a number of stories have hit the media of late and this past week has got me reflecting on a lot of things. Emotions have been triggered, arguments arose, I've had unanswered questions and I just can't stop thinking and asking myself questions like "Why does almost every girl have a personal story about sexual abuse?" and "Why do we keep blaming the victims?". Well, on the quest to augment my knowledge, I made a little research and found out that according to the United Nations, it is estimated that 35 per cent of women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or sexual violence by a non-partner (not including sexual harassment) at some point in their lives. Evidence also shows that women who have experienced physical or sexual intimate partner violence report higher rates of depression, having an abortion and acquiring HIV, compared to women who have not. Although there are no real statistics in Nigeria, it i...

WHY I BECAME A NURSE

Image
Hello guys, welcome to my mini world! My name is Omolade Adeleke also known as the ANTIDEPRESSANT NURSE. I am a registered nurse who has a flair for educating people. I love to put a smile on everybody’s face and I think this blog is a very good avenue to do so. You might be wondering why a registered nurse is having a blog and writing. The answer to that is obvious. I love writing, I love teaching, I love to put a smile on people’s faces and this blog will be a cool avenue to do just that. Before you jump into my world, just know that this blog would focus majorly on health, wellness and lifestyle and I hope that I can impact as many people as possible with every bit of joy that I have to offer. A lot of people have a wide range of reasons for choosing to become a nurse. Some choose nursing because of job opportunities and security. Others choose nursing for the “fat remuneration”. Some choose nursing because they have one as a parent and fell in love with the ...
